WARREN TOWNSHIP -- A man was shot Wednesday morning in the parking lot of J & L Lounge, which the township police chief is trying to get shut down because of the violence there.
Vincent Lowery, 47, was shot twice in the back as he was leaving the bar on Highland Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. Lowery drove himself to the hospital and will be having surgery on Friday for his wounds, according to police.
Police said there was some type of argument inside the bar before the shooting. The victim claims not to know the person who shot him, police Chief Don Bishop said.
"By the time we got there, the bar was closed," Bishop said.
Nobody is in custody for the shooting, and Bishop said it is still under investigation.
This is one of more than 100 incidents that have happened since the bar has been open, Bishop said. He has been trying to get the business shut down because it's been a problem for some time.
On Oct. 17, there was a liquor license hearing to start the process of shutting it down and township officials are waiting to find out the outcome, Bishop said.
Bishop wants the bar shut down because of all of the acts of violence that have happened there.
"If this doesn't work, if the liquor board doesn't take the license, the next step is take it to court and deem it a nuisance," Bishop said. "Either way, our goal is to shut the bar down."
In April of 2016, James Earl Dotson, 33, was shot and killed in the bar's parking lot.
"For the safety of the community, we need to get that bar shut down," Bishop said.
