WARREN -- United Steel Workers endorsed Democrat Richard Cordray for Ohio governor Friday and he stopped at the United Steel Workers hall in Warren to speak with union leaders.
Cordray said many of the building trade unions have endorsed him, as did the United Mine Workers.
The rights to collectively bargain are under threat by Republican leaders, Cordray said.
But Joshua Eck, spokesman for Republican candidate Mike DeWine, said seven labor organizations recently endorsed the state attorney general -- Affiliated Construction Trades Ohio, Northwest Ohio Building Trades, Sheet Metal Workers from Locals 24 and 33, International Union of Operating Engineers , the Ohio Conference of Plasterers & Cement Masons, the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters and the Tri-State Building and Construction Trades Council.
During the primary, Cordray won the endorsement of Ohio AFL-CIO, which has 600,000 members.
Cordray said union workers endorse him because they believe he will look out for their interests and make the kinds of investments in infrastructure and economic development that will keep them employed and their communities growing.
Eck said labor is reacting well to DeWine's campaign because they believe DeWine can strengthen the workforce.
