WHAT: Trustee meeting Monday

PRESENT: Rex Fee, Doug Emerine and Brian Bugos

Trustees:

• Approved proceeding with demolition of the former Mike’s Market, 814 State Road, at $22,000;

• Are having township legal advisor Mark Finamore finalize guidelines for transient vendors in the township. Trustees will act on a resolution at a future meeting;

• Approved purchase of limestone from Arrowhead Transport in Cortland at cost not to exceed $12,000 for chip and seal work on three miles of roads. Road paving work will include Prentice Road from Downs Road to state Route 45, Shafer Road from the dead end to Airport Road and Cleveland Street from Route 45 to the dead end;

• Approved paying police Chief Jeff White for 40 hours of vacation time based on sergeant pay of $24 per hour he accumulated when he was a sergeant and agreeing to forfeit 57 additional hours of vacation time. Fee said White had been in a bad accident when he was a sergeant and used sick time, but had accumulated a portion of the 97 hours of vacation prior to becoming chief;

• Heard from residents Jerry and Cheryl Stevens of Prentice Road, who are beekeepers, that they did not have any problems with their bee colonies during the mosquito spraying in 2017. One year, several bee colonies were found dead;

• Heard complaints from several residents of Shafer Road of flooding problems, mostly at the northern sections of the street;

• Announced the Champion Community Network Council will present a free educational forums, “Ways to Safe Proof Your Home” and “How to Safeguard Against Scams and Fraud” 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Mahoning Avenue;

• Accepted a $2,588 scrap tire grant from the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District. The scrap tire collection is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 14 at road department;

• Approved selling a 1992 Pierce International rescue pumper to Randall Bracket Fire Truck Repair in Dallas, Ga., for $5,000;

• Approved Joel Davis of JED Services LLC for IT service at $60 per hour or $80 per hour for hours outside normal business hours;

• Heard from fire Chief John Hickey of painting, carpeting installation and other work at the fire department;

• Purchased two mowers from Middlefield Farm and Garden for $15,598;

• Approved Hickey attending the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association annual conference July 12 to 16 at a cost not to exceed $1,204;

• Announced decorations need to be removed from cemetery by April 30.
