WARREN -- Frank Fuda, incumbent Trumbull County commissioner, ended 2017 with four times the amount of money as the woman who is challenging him for the Democratic nomination in the May primary.
Lisha Pompili Baumiller, who has served for more than 15 years as 3rd Ward councilwoman in Hubbard, ran against Fuda for the same seat in the 2014 primary race. Fuda won with 70 percent of the vote, but Pompili Baumiller won in Hubbard and Hubbard Township.
The two filed their annual campaign finance reports with the Trumbull County Board of Elections. Many candidates are required to file the reports, unless they filed a post-general election report this year or had a waiver for spending or expending under the cap.
Pompili Baumiller reported raising more than Fuda in 2017 -- $5,584 to his $3,695 -- but Fuda carried over a larger balance from previous years. Fuda now has $28,375 on hand, while Pompili Baumiller has $6,846 at her disposal.
Whichever candidate wins the primary race is likely to face off against Mary Williams, a Lakeview school board member, who is running unopposed for Republican nomination for the commissioner seat.
The filing deadline for the primary is Feb. 7.
