WARREN -- Police are investigating the Tuesday morning shooting death of a man that marks the city's second homicide in less than a week.

Scott Rockenfelder Jr., 28, of Elm Road NE, died from a gunshot wound Tuesday near the intersection of Main Avenue SW and Second Street SW, police said. Rockenfelder's death comes on the heels of the death of Larry Maurice Smith, 34, who was the victim of a shooting that occurred about 8:45 p.m. Dec. 20 at the apartment complex at 425 Southern Blvd. NW. Smith was found dead in a car that crashed minutes later near Summit and Mahoning Avenue NW, and it is believed he was trying to make it to a hospital after being shot.

Police were called Tuesday just before 2:30 a.m. to 1211 Main Ave. SW by Mieyla Parker, 27, of Monroe Street, who calmly told a dispatcher she was shot in the back and Rockenfelder was also shot. Parker told the dispatcher a vehicle pulled up and started shooting at a car she and Rockenfelder were in, according to the 911 call, and she said she got out and ran and doesn't know who fired the shots.

"Can you please come now?" Parker said. "Please, my back is killing me. I have to pray, so come on."

In a post to her Facebook page around 5 a.m. Parker said she's alive "by the grace of God" and the bullet missed main arteries and her spine, but broke her ribs and hit a kidney. Parker said a bullet will have to remain in her back and a doctor told her she's lucky to be alive, according to the post.

Parker could not be reached for additional comment and police did not release additional information.
