Ohio Edison hits gas line moving pole in Weathersfield

WEATHERSFIELD -- A natural gas leak caused when a crew with Ohio Edison severed a line near the corner of Youngstown Warren Road and Robbins Avenue was repaired by 2 p.m., but not without first snarling traffic for a short period.
The Weathersfield Fire Department had to close the busy intersection in McKinley Heights while Dominion East Ohio crews searched for the source of the leak.
East Ohio spokesman Neil Durbin said four commercial customers lost service after a four-inch plastic gas line was cut just after 10:30 a.m. at 2796 Robbins Ave. Gas company workers were clearing the intersection at about 5:30 p.m., he said. The line was cut while the electric company was moving a utility pole.
"Initially, we expected eight customers to be affected … however, the plaza was fed from a different line and we were able to maintain service to those customers," Durbin said.
Durbin said the gas wasn't shut off until about 12:50 p.m. because crews had difficulty finding the source of the leak.
