Ohio man accused of recording fatal accident pleads guilty

1 min read

LORAIN (AP) – A northeast Ohio man accused of recording a cellphone video of a grisly car crash that killed one teenage boy and critically injured another has pleaded guilty to vehicle trespass and disorderly conduct.

Forty-one-year-old Paul Pelton’s plea deal on Tuesday in Lorain includes the dismissal of felony bribery and witness intimidation charges. Pelton was accused of trying to persuade the teenage driver of the vehicle to tell police he had permission to open the car door after the single-car accident in July.

The charges stem from Pelton having opened a car door of the wrecked vehicle to continue recording while others tried to help the two teens. Police said Pelton can be heard calling the teens “idiots” on the video.

One of Pelton’s attorneys declined to comment on Wednesday.
