Police look at closing Cottage Inn

NILES – Police are exploring options to shut down the Cottage Inn, across from the Eastwood Mall, after a meth lab bust there over the weekend led to 10 arrests.
“We’ve had a large number of calls there between police and fire departments, so we’re exploring what we can do,” Niles police Chief Rob Hinton said. “We met with our legal adviser earlier today.”
Hinton said one of the buildings that included the meth lab was closed down by the city’s building and zoning department until the ventilation system is professionally cleaned of chemicals.
During the bust on Friday, a day pack for making methamphetamines was located in an air vent. Among the seizure of cooking instruments, scales, meth and heroin was approximately $545 in cash.
Larry E. Moran, 41, of Niles was arrested as the main subject in the case. Police said they believe he had been cooking in room 202 of the Cottage Inn for about three weeks after having worked out of another motel room in the complex.
Hinton said they may be able to rule the site a public nuisance. The location is owned by Anita Suri, according to the Trumbull County Auditor’s website. Attempts to reach Suri were unsuccessful. She did not return a message left seeking comment.
The location has appeared in police blotters and a location for criminal activity including the January kidnapping of a man who had intended to meet a prostitute at the location. During the incident, Juan D. Jordan, 23, of Roberts Avenue, Warren, and Daniel D. Boone Jr., 24, forced William J. Hollis, 29, of Hermitage, Pa.to withdrawal $520 from ATMs.
