YOUNGSTOWN – In one 24-hour span, four people were shot in Youngstown and two of them died.
“It started Sunday a little before 4 a.m. and unfortunately it continued until this morning,” Youngstown Police Capt. Brad Blackburn told Tribune Chronicle news partner WYTV 33 News on Monday.
Bryant Abercrombie, 47, of Cleveland, was found dead of a gunshot wound outside a motorcycle club at 104 E. Midlothian Blvd. just before 4 a.m. Sunday. Police said he was shot in the head and was found about 20 feet away from the club’s back door.
Police said a large crowd gathered and began to throw things and become violent, and witnesses were being uncooperative, according to a police report.
Police said they believe Abercrombie was in a fight at the club before the shooting.
Next, police were called to a home at 2685 McFarland Ave. in the Idora neighborhood on the South Side around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Someone told officers a man inside the house was shot in the stomach, but officers found two men lying on the living room floor with gunshot wounds, according to a police report.
The victims have been identified as Eddie Robinson Jr., 21, of Youngstown, and Carlos Herring, 27, of Struthers. Both were still alive as of Monday afternoon.
At 5 a.m. Monday, police found a man shot to death on the sidewalk in front of a house in the 2000 block of Guadalupe Avenue on the city’s north side. A police report states the man had blood coming from the area of his head, but he was wearing a hood and the officer was unable to see the injury. The victim had been shot in the head.
The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Antwon Lee Martinez, 20, saying he likely died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said they are following up on leads in all three shootings, which Blackburn said are unrelated.
Usually, violence slows down this time of year, police said.
“For the most part, we usually do see a dip. There is less interaction in general with the weather being so cold,” Blackburn told 33 News.
