Arraignment in Sunset case

2 min read

WARREN – A person of interest in the New Year’s morning homicide at the Sunset Lounge in Warren was arraigned on a weapons charge in Municipal Court Wednesday morning.

Orlonzo Murry, 27, of 1016 Bennet Ave. N.W., was arraigned on the charge of possession of a firearm in a liquor establishment. He is being held in the Trumbull County Jail until a bond hearing at 10:15 a.m. Friday.

Murry is wanted for questioning in the murder of 25-year-old Cory Blackwell, who died after being shot at the club Jan. 1. Police say an argument inside escalated into the shooting.

Murry has been wanted on the warrant for several weeks. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Columbus early Saturday morning and taken into custody Monday evening by Warren detectives.

Warren police confirmed they had been looking for Murry since shortly after the shooting and realized he had left the area. Police said they do not know why Murry was in Columbus and are not aware of any ties he has to that area.

No other arrests have been made in the case.

Blackwell was fatally shot after a fight broke out on the dance floor of the controversial club during a New Year’s party, according to police reports. The shooting also left a Warren woman wounded in the foot. Police found Blackwell outside the bar.
