Girard waits for scoop on explosion

GIRARD — As city officials wait to hear from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio about an investigation of a house explosion April 30 at 1018 N. State St., a ban on fiber optic companies digging in the city remains in effect. The site on North State Street is vacant with hay and grass seed where the two-story home once stood. Mike DeWine said today he will appoint Andy Wilson, director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, as the state’s next attorney general, to replace Dave Yost, who is resigning, effective June 7. Leaders look at 911 center locations

CHAMPION — The Trumbull County Commissioners have been looking at different locations for a 911 dispatching center, including a former Howland school, former Rite Aid building in Champion, the former county health department building in Warren and current health department in Cortland. Champion Township Trustee Chairman Doug Emerine said he and other officials looked at a former Rite Aid building off state Route 45 as a possible 911 center location.
