Lordstown council revisits AI ban tonight

Lordstown Village Council will look to reconsider its ban on artificial intelligence centers during its 6 p.m. caucus today.

It will consider three ordinances for emergency passage.

The first involves amending and restating ordinance No. 19-2025 to include “an extraordinary matter involving data centers to be effective retroactively to Nov. 12, 2025.”

The second repeals ordinance No. 57-2025 that “prohibits the establishment and operation of data centers within the corporate limits of the village of Lordstown.”

The third measure calls for placing a 180-day moratorium on granting or issuing of “any new permits, as well as the receipt and processing of applications for permits, for data centers within the corporate limits of the village of Lordstown.”

Bristolville 25 Developer LLC of Columbus filed plans Oct. 21 to build a data center in the village. On Nov. 3, village council banned AI data centers.

Attorneys for Bristolville 25 have asked the Ohio Supreme Court to intervene.

The ordinance implementing the ban goes into effect Wednesday.

Citing litigation, village Mayor Jackie Woodward said she could not comment on the matter.

Reporter Bob Coupland will report on Lordstown Village Council’s actions in Tuesday’s edition of The Tribune Chronicle.

Starting at $3.23/week.
