Warren man sentenced for 2023 shooting death of Ruby Sanchez

WARREN — A Warren man was sentenced Tuesday for the 2023 shooting death of Rudy Sanchez, 43, at the Hampshire House Apartments.

Jamarr Jenkins, 20, of Kenmore Avenue SE, has been sentenced to 8 to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty as part of an agreement negotiated between his attorney, Lynn Maro, and Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gina Buccino Thomas. The plea deal reduced a charge of aggravated murder down to involuntary manslaughter with firearm specifications. He also pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree felonious assault and third-degree endangering children.

Jenkins had faced up to 25 to 30 years in prison, including three years for using a firearm in commission of a crime, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Buccino Thomas had explained at a January hearing after Jenkins pleaded, that if the defendant had gone to trial, the prosecution would have proven that Jenkins and a co-defendant shot into a vehicle containing Sanchez and her son, Noel Flores, resulting in Sanchez’s death later that evening.

Regarding the charge of endangering, the prosecution said Jenkins was at home with a 2-year-old child when the child shot himself. The firearm recovered from the incident was matched by police to the gun used in the shooting of Sanchez, the prosecutor said.

Flores was also sentenced last week to 14 to 19 years for involuntary manslaughter in the death of a Warren mother, who was shot in her Francis Avenue home in November.
