WARREN -- Trumbull County Coroner Dr. Lawrence D’Amico has identified the 13-year-old boy who died April 1 in Leavittsburg in a weather-related incident as Brenton Hemberger.
Various fundraising efforts are being planned to help the local family after a tree fell on a house.
The coroner said an autopsy will be done.
Project Be Somebody and Burg, Bait and Tackle were busy last weekend planning for upcoming events to help the family with their losses, which included the Park Road SW home which was destroyed by the fallen oak.
According to a news release posted on Warren Township Fire Department website, the township fire department was notified at 1:09 p.m. Saturday that during the storm, a large oak tree fell onto a house with entrapment in the 300 block of Park Road NW. Reports say the 13-year-old inside the house was entrapped in the rubble. There was extensive structural damage to the house, the report states. Extrication was prolonged due to the stability of the structure.
Family members as well as first responders were on the scene until 4:31 p.m., the release states.
Lisa Booze with Project Be Somebody said she has received hundreds of calls from people who want to help with an April 16 event being planned at the Johnson Community Center,
“I have had so many calls from people who want to help. The phone has not stopped. Project Be Somebody was set up to help people, and we want to help this family,” Booze said indicating plans will be finalized this week for the event.
David Shaffer of Burg, Bait and Tackle on North Leavitt Road said he is holding a basket raffle and 50-50 raffle. He said people from the community and others have stopped to make monetary donations and also bring in items from fishing gear to a baby Yoda from “Star Wars” for the gift baskets.
