WARREN – City police shared on social media police body camera video showing a Nov. 2 police chase into a local daycare center.
After officers identified a fugitive wanted on a felonious assault warrant, a foot chase ensured.
Officers pursued the man, identified as Lamar Mitchell, 39, after he refused to pull over his vehicle on North Park Avenue.
The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into a vehicle in the area of North Park and Washington Street NE. He left his vehicle and ran behind a daycare center.
Officers chased the man, who forced his way through a rear door of the daycare center as an employee walking back into the center was attempting to shut the door. Officers followed the man inside, and as they entered the same doorway, the suspect raised his hand toward the officers and threatened to “shoot” them.
An officer attempted to use a stun weapon on the suspect but was unsuccessful. Officers were able to apprehend him after he fled into a classroom, where several young children were playing.
Mitchell, of Parkman Road NW, appeared for a preliminary hearing before municipal Judge Terry Ivanchak Thursday. His $250,000 bond was continued on charges of first-degree aggravated robbery and three counts aggravated menacing. Mitchell remains in Trumbull County jail pending the posting of that bond and his case could go to a grand jury.
