Plans laid out for second covered bridge in Newton Falls

NEWTON FALLS – Newton Falls City Manager David Lynch unveiled plans this afternoon to construct a second covered bridge in the village in attempt to draw more visitors to the community.

In a press conference today, Lynch unveiled the plan for a $2.521 million timber enclosed bridge on state Route 534. The Robin-egg blue bridge would be built on the site of a former timber enclosed bridge that had been removed in the 1940s.

If the plan is implemented, it would be the village’s second covered bridge.

Accompanying Lynch for the press conference were representatives from Smolen Engineering of Ashtabula County, which has worked on several other covered bridge projects in that county, Trumbull County Engineer Randy Smith and Ralph Bacon, a project artist who provided renderings.
