MINERAL RIDGE -- Both lanes of the 3500 block of state Route 46 have been reopened while police remain on the scene this morning of a crash in which a car slammed into a brick house and landed on the front porch steps.
The driver’s legs were pinned inside the crumpled vehicle. Firefighters were able to free her and she has been taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
Her name and condition have yet to be released. She was the only occupant of the car when it crashed shortly after 11 a.m.
Bruce Rogers, 55, the resident of the house, said the woman, who is in her 50s, was conscious after the crash and told him she couldn’t get out of the car. He called 911.
Neither Rogers nor his Dalmatian, who were inside the house when the car hit it, were injured.
Rogers said he rents the house at 3557 state Route 46 from Rosemary Lamb of Mineral Ridge. The house is across the road from Cocca’s Pizza.
One lane of Route 46 was blocked off for a time to accommodate rescue workers.
Police are continuing to investigate what caused the crash. Some neighbors said that it appeared that a pickup truck ran the car off the roadway, but that has not been confirmed.
The four-door vehicle hit the front of the brick house and landed on the porch steps, with the front end of the car on the porch and the driver’s side of the car against the house. The front of the vehicle was caved in. The front of the house was damaged as well.
