Growing thanks and meals for Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, Trumbull County! I say it every year, but Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. The gathering of friends and family to give thanks for the great things in our lives over a wonderful meal is truly special. No matter how bad the year has been, you can always find a few bright spots to celebrate. We are blessed to have a wonderful local agricultural community and it would not be too hard to have a locally sourced Thanksgiving meal. Bazetta plans Christmas event

CHRISTMAS IN BAZETTA: Christmas in Bazetta will be 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Imagination Station in Bazetta Township Park. Those attending can bring an ornament to share on the park Christmas tree. Santa Claus will arrive at 3:30 p.m. to visit with children. Cookies and hot chocolate will be available. • HARTFORD TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES will have a special meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday to meet with Brookfield Township trustees at the Hartford Township administration building to discuss the fire and emergency medical services contract. • NEWTON TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES will have a special meeting at 8 a.m. Friday at the township administration building to consider an application submitted by Duck Creek Golf Club Inc. for a D-5 and D-6 liquor permit. Winterfest Dance set at Ciminero’s

WINTERFEST DANCE: The 22nd annual Winterfest Dance will be 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at Ciminero’s Banquet Centre, 123 N. Main St., Niles. The event will be an evening of music, fun and excitement for special needs students. The dance is open to all high school-aged students with multiple, orthopedic and / or developmental disabilities. Girard plans Christmas event

CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK: Girard’s second annual Christmas in the Park will be 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Tod Park in Girard. The event, which is sponsored by the city of Girard, is free and will include Santa Claus, horse and carriage rides, pictures with Santa, children’s games, caroling and music. CHRISTMAS GIFT SIGNUPS: The Emmanuel Community Care Center in Girard is taking Christmas signups through Dec. 5. Families who are registered at the center can call and register children up to age 12.
