HANDS OF HEALING: The Nurse Honor Guard of Eastern Ohio will host Hands of Healing in a Time of War at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Warren Heritage Center/Kinsman House, 303 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. The event is a tribute to the nurse veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. Speakers include a nurse veteran who served on the USNS Comforter.
REVOLUTIONARY WAR STORY: The Revolutionary War in Ohio: A Frontier Battleground will be presented at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Copper Penny Lodge, 4275 Warren Sharon Road, Vienna. The program is hosted by the Vienna Historical Society. The 30 to 60 minute presentation explores Ohio's pivotal role during the American Revolutionary War, highlighting key battles, strategic military movements and the impact of the conflict on the region. From frontier skirmishes to the involvement of Native American tribes, discover how Ohio contributed to the shaping of the early United States and its fight for independence. This month's speaker is Kate Pfouts, Trumbull County Historical Society archivist.
FALL FUNDRAISER: The Upton Association will have a Fall and Fun raiser event at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Harriet Taylor Upton House, 380 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Cost is $20. FOOD FEST: St. Pope John XVIII Parish-Our Lady of Mount Carmel campus on Robbins Avenue, Niles, will have a food fest 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. There will be carryout and pickup. There will be various festival foods available. Red pizza and calzones can be preordered at 330-652-2811.
LEAF COLLECTION: The city of Girard will again require the use of paper lawn bags for the annual leaf collection. Leaves raked to the street will not be picked up by the city. The city has purchased a bulk quantity of bags that will be available to city residents while supplies last. Bags can be picked up 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday starting Thursday through Nov. 25 at the city street department garage, 843 S. State St. The first five bags are provided at no cost upon proof of residency, such as a photo ID or a utility bill. If additional bags are needed they can be purchased at cost of five bags for $1. Collection of bags will be with the garbage collection. The city will not pick them up. For additional information, call 330-545-3306.
SEWING GUILD ANNIVERSARY: The Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild will have its 35th anniversary 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday with guest and television personality Joanne Banko for a seminar at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. PINK RIBBON TEA: The 32nd annual Pink Ribbon Tea for Breast Cancer Survivors will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Oct. 13 at Waypoint in Canfield. The Junior League of the Mahoning Valley presents this event free to survivors to unite and celebrate all breast cancer survivors in the tri-county area. Senior Gift Officer of Mercy Health Gina Marinelli will emcee the event.
The luncheon will feature entertainment, guest speakers and vendors who will be on site to provide information about local breast cancer services. Breast cancer survivors may receive an invitation by calling Betty Cmil at 330-506-6979.
