HARTFORD APPLE FESTIVAL: The Hartford Apple Festival will take place Friday to Sunday at the township center at state Routes 7 and 305. The event will include food, local vendors, car shows, queen's pageant, carnival games, live entertainment and a parade. The 27th annual car show will be on Sunday at Hartford United Methodist Church. The queen's pageant is Friday. The parade will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, with Hartford Road closing between Route 7 and Bushnell Campbell Road from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
TEA OF THE MONTH: The Girard Free Library will offer a unique tea experience at 2 p.m. today highlighting Gyokuro, an umami green tea from Japan, and rose, an aromatic floral, brewed using an Aeropress, a modern cylindrical brewer developed by Alan Adler. Registration is required to reserve a spot for the program at 330-545-2508.
GIRARD FARMERS MARKET: Girard will have a Farmers Market 5 to 7 p.m. today at Tod Park with food trucks and vendors.
FOOD DRIVE: The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation is hosting its annual High Holiday food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley through Oct. 14. Donations are being accepted at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown and Akiva Academy, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown; Temple El Emeth and Children of Israel Congregation, 3970 Logan Way, Liberty; and Ohev Beth Sholom, 1119 Elm St., Youngstown.
Items needed the most year-round include peanut butter, cereal, canned vegetables, canned fruit, tuna fish, dry pasta, canned soup, and macaroni and cheese. Monetary donations should be made payable to the Second Harvest Food Bank and sent to JCRC, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, Ohio 44504. TNP CLEANUP: The 2026 Warren citywide autumn community cleanup will be 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District are teaming up to support a volunteer-led day of litter collection throughout neighborhoods, parks and public spaces across Warren.

NEOC BIKE RIDE: The Out-Spokin' Wheelmen will host its 53rd annual Northeast Ohio Century, or NEOC, on Sunday, bringing cyclists from Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania together for one of the Youngstown-area club's longest-running traditions.
This year, the 25-mile route adds a little extra fall flavor with visits to the 62nd annual Hartford Apple Festival and Hartford Hill Winery and Brewery. Riders can choose routes of 10, 25, 50 or 51 miles, making the event an option for cyclists looking for anything from a short recreational ride to a full-day endurance goal. Participants ride at their own pace along color-coded routes through mostly flat terrain.
NEOC also has earned another, perhaps more delicious, nickname: the Northeast Ohio Cookie Ride. Out-Spokin' volunteers bake dozens upon dozens of homemade cookies to keep cyclists fueled throughout the day, and lunch is included with registration.
Riders can begin between 7 and 10 a.m. at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, 6400 state Route 46, Mecca. Helmets are required, and support vehicles will be available until 5 p.m. to assist cyclists with mechanical problems or other needs.
Registration is open at outspokinwheelmen.com. The cost is $30 per person today and $35 after that.
ANNUAL CAR SHOW: The annual Car Show hosted by Ali Baba Grotto will be noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Ali Baba Grotto, 760 Perkins Jones Road, Warren. Registration is $10 from 10 a.m. to noon and will include dash plaques to the first 50 cars registered. Breakfast will be 9 a.m. to noon, and lunch will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. There will be music by DJ Mike Hammond, a 50/50 raffle, basket raffle and judging by those who registered a car.
SHOEBOX VOLUNTEERS: Operation Christmas Child volunteers pack shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children around the world. Since 1993, more than 244 million children in more than 175 countries and territories have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. National Collection Week is Nov. 16 through 23.
A workshop will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at First Baptist Church of Jefferson, 85 W. Jefferson St. Information on resources and new content will be available to help those churches and organizations in Trumbull and Ashtabula counties who are interested in packing shoeboxes.

POW RECOGNITION DAY: The 18th annual POW/ MIA Recognition Day will begin Friday for 24 hours at the Circle Memorial Park in Niles, corner of Robbins and Vienna avenues. The recognition day includes a candlelight vigil. The POW/MIA vigil was started by a group of men who wanted to bring awareness of the recognition and meaning of the day to the public.The group is made up of civilians and veterans
LOCAL PROGRAM: The Leavittsburg Heritage Association will host a program at 6 p.m. today at the museum on West Market Street near the site of the former Labrae High School. The program will be on the history of the Hometown Discount Store.
