CELEBRATING EQUALITY: A Women's Equality Day observance will take place at noon Wednesday at the Women's Park off Mahoning Avenue NW, Warren. The theme is "The Life of Carey Green Mountain" who was the first black woman to own property in Warren. Guest speaker to tell her story will be Warren Councilwoman-at-Large Helen Rucker. She will chronicle Mountain's journey from slave to freedom and then to property owner in 1892. The event commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.
Refreshments will be served after the program at the Harriet Taylor Upton House.
UNION CEMETERY STORY: The Girard Free Library will have a program history of the Girard-Liberty Union Cemetery at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The program is part of the America250 celebration. Registration is required for the program. Discover the rich early history of Trumbull County through the stories of the Revolutionary War veterans laid to rest at the Girard-Liberty Union Cemetery, one of the region's oldest burial grounds established in 1813. The talk will be led by Trumbull County Historical Society Archivist Kate Pfouts, who will explore the lives of these early patriots, the significance of their service and the cemetery's role as a resting place for some of the area's earliest settlers.
