Seeing Eye: Mount Carmel Festival begins Saturday

MOUNT CARMEL FESTIVAL: The Girard Mount Carmel Festival will take place July 11 to 16 at the Italian Fraternal Home Club, 33 W. Wilson Ave. The festival includes food, carnival games, amusement rides, a 50-50 raffle, bingo and nightly entertainment. Musical entertainment is 8 to 11 p.m. July 11 to 15. A parade, which will be led by the Blue Coats Band, will be at 10 a.m. July 16 from the IFH to St. Rose Church for a Mass at 11 a.m. Musical performances will be from 5 to 10:30 p.m. July 16, followed by fireworks by the Justin Leo Memorial Bridge at 11 p.m.

SOAPMAKING PROGRAM: The Girard Free Library will offer “Jurassic Soap” at 3 p.m. Thursday. Children 12-18 can learn to make soap by melting and pouring to make a fossilized creation. All materials will be provided. For more information, call 330-545-2508.

WELLNESS ON WHEELS: The Warren City Health District’s Wellness on Wheels will be on site 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Christy Shelter House, 919 Main St. SW, Warren.

DONATION DROPOFF: Katharina’s Closet is hosting a donation dropoff 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday and the first Monday of each month at 2742 North Road NE, Warren. Donations of diapers, wipes and baby clothes are needed.

If you would like to drop off items, call the church at 330-647-6402 to arrange a time. Do not leave items on or near the porch or in the parking lot.

TINY ART SHOW: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will display artwork done by all ages and skill levels through July as part of the second annual Tiny Art Show. Stop in the library to see what the patrons have created.

PALENTOLOGIST PRESENTATION: McKinley Memorial Library will present “Remarkable Creatures: The Life and Times of Mary Anning, Fossil Collector and Paleontologist,” 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Attendees will learn about her groundbreaking discoveries and discuss the book based on her life: “Remarkable Creatures” by Tracy Chevalier. The program is presented in partnership with the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum.

LEGO CLUB: The McKinley Memorial Library presents LEGO Club for children ages 5-11 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in July in the children’s room of the library. Builders of all skill levels are invited to create their own LEGO masterpieces and display them at the library (optional). All supplies will be provided.

MOVIE CLUB: The McKinley Memorial Library Movie Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the McKinley Birthplace Home, Niles. Participants will watch the selected movie at home, then meet fellow movie buffs for a friendly discussion on the first Tuesday of each month. This month, attendees will watch and discuss “Mickey 17,” directed by Bong Joon Ho.

TRAUMA TALK: The McKinley Memorial Library will present “How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are (and How to End the Cycle)” with renowned therapy expert Mark Wolynn at 2 p.m. Tuesday. This author talk will be streamed live online.
