Mineral Ridge High School recently accepted a $10,000 donation from VFW Post 2074 in support of the school and its continued partnership with military families throughout the district.

“On behalf of VFW Post 2074, we are proud to present this $10,000 donation to Mineral Ridge High School, a school that holds a special place in our hearts,” Dave Sheely, post commander, said. “We hope this contribution will support the school’s continued success and further strengthen its relationship with military families throughout the district.”

Mineral Ridge High School officials expressed their appreciation for the VFW’s generosity and dedication to supporting students and families within the community.

“We are incredibly grateful to VFW Post 2074 for this generous $10,000 donation to Mineral Ridge High School,” Stephen Boyle, district military liaison, said. “Their continued support and commitment to our students, staff and military families is truly appreciated. This contribution will have a meaningful impact on our school community, and we are thankful for the strong partnership we share with VFW Post 2074.”

In April 2026, MRHS was selected as a Purple Star School for the Class of 2026 by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, recognizing the school’s commitment to supporting military-connected students and families. Mineral Ridge High School was one of only 12 area schools to receive the recognition in 2026 and now joins more than 800 schools across Ohio that have earned Purple Star status.

Throughout the year the Weathersfield Local School District honors military service and supports military-connected families through several programs and events, including:

• Veteran’s Day Breakfast hosted by the MRHS History Club

• Military recognition nights at athletic events

• Classroom lessons highlighting military history, traditions and service

The donation reflects the strong connection between Mineral Ridge Schools and local veterans organizations, as well as a shared commitment to supporting students, military-connected families and educational opportunities throughout the district. The district looks forward to partnering with the VFW in the future to assist with local events and activities.

Starting at $3.23/week.
