Kick off summer reading, visit with animals

LIBRARY HOSTS PETTING ZOO: The McKinley Memorial Library will present Summer Reading Kickoff: Pony Time Ranch and Petting Zoo 10 a.m. to noon Saturday on the grounds of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial, weather permitting. Attendees can register for the summer reading program and enjoy time with a variety of animals, including ducks, lambs, rabbits and a puppy. This event is supported by the State Library of Ohio with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

BAD ELVES BUG RUN: Santa’s Bad Elves Bug Run will be 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Local Tap and Grill, 2242 Greenville Road, Mecca, to raise money to support the 20th annual Santa Run scheduled for Aug. 15. The event will include the run, prizes, dinner and dessert. All vehicles are welcome. Registration is $10 per person. Last bike in at 9 p.m. For information, call 234-244-4011.

WRITING WORKSHOP: This summer, Lit Youngstown is offering a writing workshop for individuals facing serious illness in themselves or family members. Seating is limited and registration is required. To register, visit lityoungstown.org.
