Civic forum set
STATE OF THE ARTS FORUM: “Mahoning Valley Civic Forum: State of the Arts,” a conversation about arts, culture and community, will take place at 5 p.m. today at Penguin City Brewing Co. in Youngstown. The evening features facilitated table discussions followed by a City Club-style panel moderated by Karen Schubert, with panelists Becky Davis of the Butler Institute of American Art, artist and educator Bill Mullane, art patron and artist Dr. Virginia “Dee” Banks, and Lynnette Forde of the Youngstown Foundation. This is a free, public event and a timely conversation about the role the arts play in the life and future of the Mahoning Valley. It also will be recorded and played on WYSU at 1 p.m. Friday.
POPS AND POPSICLES: Woodland Park in McDonald will hold “Pop and Popsicles” from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday for children to celebrate Father’s Day with their father, grandfather, uncle or special man in their life. One popsicle per person.
DAIRY FARMS: A program on local dairy farms will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Leavittsburg Heritage Museum, 4901 W. Market St.
FATHER’S DAY CARD CREATION: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will present a Father’s Day card creation station 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. Visitors of all ages are invited to create a custom card at the library to celebrate Father’s Day.
KUNG FU CLASS: A free kung fu self-defense class will take place 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church, East Market Street, Warren. The Mark Pringle family of Girard will provide instruction. The program is for ages 18 and older.
MUSIC ON THE LAWN: McKinley Memorial Library will present Music on the Lawn from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a free performance.
This week, enjoy the traditional Dixieland jazz band, Dixie Dandies, on the grounds of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial, weather permitting.
