Bring American flags to be retired
HOWLAND EVENT: Howland American Legion Post 700 will conduct a flag retirement ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at Living Lord Lutheran Church, 851 Niles Cortland Road NE, Howland. The flag retirement ceremony is a formal way to dispose of an American flag that has become worn, torn, faded or soiled. Howland residents with such flags are invited to bring them to the ceremony.
STRAWBERRY SOCIAL: Central Christian Church, 2061 E Market St., Warren, will host a strawberry social 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
WALK AND CHALK: The McDonald summer recreation program will kick off the season with a Walk and Chalk event 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Woodland Park. Children can decorate the sidewalk in front of the park. Children can meet at the splash pad to find the sidewalk they want to decorate. There will be buckets of chalk available.
OWL PROWL: Mosquito Lake State Park in Bazetta will offer an owl prowl at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the amphitheater near the park entrance to the campgrounds off Hoagland Blackstub Road. There will be an exploration of the campground trails and roads as participants wait for nightfall. There will be a short presentation on owls followed by the walk. LIBRARY PRESENTS DINNIMAN: The McKinley Memorial Library presents “Apocalyptic Mayhem, Lava-Spitting Llamas, and One Very Sassy Cat: Surviving the Universe’s Most Twisted RPG” with Matt Dinniman at 7 p.m. Thursday.

WHATEVER IT TAKES: Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will offer a program titled “Whatever it Takes” at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The program is designed to empower participants to set meaningful goals and focus on mindfulness. The program is free, but a free-will donation will be accepted.
OPEN HOUSE: The Moss Ancestral Home, 1499 Burnett St., Mineral Ridge, will be open 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Mineral Ridge Historical Society house located across the street also will be open. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the house and give tours. Mary Lou Godleski, a Moss family descendant, has been contributing to the restoration of the house since 1990.
