Church collects food for Second Harvest

FOOD DRIVE: Bazetta Christian Church, 4131 Bazetta Road, will host a food drive Saturday to May 18 to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. Second Harvest provides critical food assistance to residents facing food insecurity. Nonperishable food items and monetary donations can be dropped off at the church. Items needed include canned tuna, dry pasta, canned fruit, cereal, macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables, peanut butter and canned soup. Non-food items are also needed and include laundry and dish detergent, toothpaste, toilet paper, diapers, soap and shampoo.
DAY OF PRAYER: Champion Presbyterian Church will host the annual National Day of Prayer Service at noon Thursday at the church. There will be scripture reading and prayers for various areas, including arts and media.
MOBILE MAMMOGRAPHY: The Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center (JACBCC) Mobile Mammography Unit will be traveling around northeast Ohio throughout the month of May:
• 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Churchill Primary Care, 4694 Belmont Ave., Liberty.
• 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Struthers Primary Care, 53 State St., Struthers.
• 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mineral Ridge Primary Care, 1360 Canfield Niles Road, Mineral Ridge.
• Noon to 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Cornersburg Primary Care, 2959 Canfield Road, Youngstown.
FIRE AUXILIARY HELP: The Braceville Fire Department Auxiliary is having a Beautify Braceville Project. The auxiliary is offering its members to come and remove nonrunning, junk, abandoned and useless vehicles from Braceville properties only at no cost. The owner/donor will be offered a receipt from the auxiliary to support the fire department. The vehicles will be used as training aids for the fire department and surrounding agencies to improve rescue skills. The vehicles will be disposed of properly through salvage and any funds raised will be put directly back to the fire department for training and equipment. If interested, contact the auxiliary and have information on make, model, year, owner information, title and other documentation available on the vehicle. CLEAN GARDENS: Volunteers are needed for maintenance work at the Warren Women’s Park. Maintenance work will begin this spring, including planting flowers, weeding, watering and caring for the fish pond. To help, call 330-395-1840. The women’s park is located between the Kinsman House and city hall in the city’s historic district. The park was created by the Upton Association, whose members maintain the park.
