Library to host talk on the sinking of the Titanic

TITANIC AFTERMATH: Tom Phoolery will present Titanic: The Aftermath at 5 p.m. today at Bristol Public Library. This is Part Two of Titanic: Tragedy of Errors. Registration is required and can be made by contacting the circulation desk at 330-889-3651.

FLYING HIGH PLANT SALE: Flying HIGH Inc. will host its 2026 annual plant sale across two locations from Tuesday through May 30.

The annual plant sale will kick off at the Access Healthy Foods Mahoning Valley Greenhouse at the Campus of Care in Mineral Ridge Tuesday through May 9, followed by a second phase at GROW Urban Farm in Youngstown from May 11 through May 30. Hours for both locations are Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Shoppers can choose from a wide selection of plants, including: $5 for a six-pack of flowers or vegetables, $20 mix-and-match flats, $8 for 6-inch potted flowers and coleus, $20 hanging baskets and ferns, and $12 for 6-8 inch tomato plants.

In addition, bonus plant selections will be available in limited quantities while supplies last, with varied pricing. All plants are grown with care through Flying HIGH’s Access Healthy Foods Mahoning Valley and workforce development efforts, which provide hands-on training and employment opportunities for individuals in the community. Proceeds from the sale directly support these programs, helping individuals build skills, gain employment, and improve their quality of life.

RED CARPET FOR AUTISM: The Autism Society of the Mahoning Valley (ASMV) is partnering with UAW Local 1112, which is hosting and sponsoring the upcoming Red Carpet Family Dance from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. The event will take place at the UAW Local 1112 Union Hall, 11471 Reuther Drive, Warren, where the union is opening its doors to create a welcoming and inclusive evening for local families.

This Hollywood-themed night is designed to celebrate autistic individuals of all ages, along with their friends and families, in a fun and supportive environment. Guests can walk the red carpet, enjoy music and dancing, and connect with others in the community.

ASMV serves the tri-county area of Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties, and families from all three counties are welcome to attend. Event highlights include a red carpet photo experience, games and dancing for all ages, and food and drinks provided by UAW Local 1112.

There also will be multiple basket raffles. Guests are encouraged to bring cash, as credit cards will not be accepted.

VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION: The Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave., will host a volunteer recognition ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday in honor of National Volunteer Week.

BENEFIT TO HELP FAMILY: St. Rose Church in Girard is sponsoring a benefit to help a local family who lost their Second Street home in a fire earlier this year. A bake sale will be at 9 a.m. Sunday at the church. Items for the bake sale can be dropped off from 10 am. to noon Saturday.

MEDICARE BASICS: McKinley Memorial Library will welcome Cynthia Bianco, a Medicare Certified Insurance Advisor, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, to explain Medicare Basics at the McKinley Birthplace in Niles. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 3.

MOBILE MARKET: The Trumbull County Mobile Market will return to the McKinley Memorial Library 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday with fresh, nutritious produce and goods. This is a public event for anyone 18 and older in Trumbull County.

MOSQUITO LAKE EARTH DAY: Mosquito Lake State Park will host a park cleanup day noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday for Earth Day. The public is asked to volunteer and help clean up throughout the park. Volunteers are welcome to come by any time during those hours and stay as long as they are able. Volunteers should stop by the park office to pick up supplies including litter pickers, trash bags, and gloves. Each person or group will be assigned a section of the park to clean. People can also register for the event online at the park’s website.

HISTORY NIGHT: The Leavittburg Heritage Association will host History Night at the Museum 6:30 p.m. Thursday at their museum, 4901 W. Market St. Speaker will be Jodi McCullough from the Mahoning Valley Astronomical Society, who will speak on Astronomy and Meteorites. The event is free and open to the public.

FOLDED BOOK WREATH: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will host a spring folded book wreath craft 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. Participants will learn how to give an old book a new life by turning it into a floral arrangement. All supplies will be provided. To register, call 330-652-1704. Ext 3.

TCTC COMMUNITY NIGHT: Trumbull Career and Technical Center, 528 Educational Highway, Champion, will host a Community Night 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. There will be local service providers, business partners and food trucks. Students will show demonstration of coursework in the 27 different programs at the center.
