Seeing Eye: Event highlights black history commemorations

CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY: The annual “Black History 365” organizations will host a two-day free event, “A Century of Black History Commemorations” from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at the STEAM Academy 261 Elm Road, Warren.

Activities include an African vendor market/museum, youth events, food buffet, panel discussions on health and wellness, the state of America, “History Informs the Present,” a fashion show, line dancing and a play on 100 years.

On Sunday, there will be a program at 3 p.m. at York Avenue Church of God with the Rev. Eric Brown Sr. There will be a discussion on ” Labor Movement and the Church,” with panelists the Rev. Robin Woodberry of Christ Episcopal, Pastor Davis of Genesis and Pastor Orneil Heller of New Jerusalem Fellowship. Entertainment includes gospel music, poetry and refreshments.

The events are sponsored by the Trumbull County Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, The Greater Warren Youngstown Urban League, Freedom BLOC, Brothers Against Violence, the A. Philip Randolph Institute and the Trumbull NAACP.

WELLNESS ON WHEELS: The Warren City Health District’s Wellness on Wheels will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday on-site at Because of Him Ministry Church, 1244 Tod Place, Warren. All services are available for Warren residents as well as the surrounding areas. For information, call 330-841-2596.

BOOK CLUB: McKinley Memorial Library’s Fantasy and Sci-fi Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles. Participants will discuss “An Academy for Liars” by Alexis Henderson.
