NILES — The Niles McKinley Speech and Debate team recently had four students qualify for the national competition in June and had six alternates who qualified as well. Qualifications happened during the Northern Ohio National Speech and Debate Association’s national qualifying tournament at Poland Seminary High School on Feb. 21. The team also received the following five special recognition awards at the event: Team, Congress Sweepstakes; Team, Northern Ohio Leading Chapter Award; Noah Young, Northern Ohio Student of the Year; Tiffany Wheeler, Northern Ohio NSDA Assistant Coach of the Year and Michael Bassett, Northern Ohio NSDA Head Coach of the Year.
