Seeing Eye: Neighborhood association to meet today
ASSOCIATION MEETING: The Northwest Neighborhood Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the Grace Methodist Church, Drexel Avenue, Warren. Guest speaker is Michael Keys, director of community development for Warren. Socks for the Warren Family Mission will be collected. The church pantry is in need of nonperishable food items.
SUPPORT MEETING: The Youngstown Area Scleroderma Support Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. today via Zoom. The meeting is open to the public and focuses on issues of people affected in all ways by scleroderma. This includes patients, family, friends or anyone interested in advancing the areas of support, education and research. DAR HOSTS MEETING: The Mary Chesney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host its annual George Washington Tea at 1 pm. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. Warren. The luncheon starts at 1 p.m. and the speaker begins at 1:45 p.m. A basket raffle will be at 2:30 p.m..
COMPETITION SET: Champion SCOPE, 240 Marshall Ave. inside the township administration building, will host a chili cookoff 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Businesses will compete for the title of best chili. There will be a basket raffle and 50-50 raffle. The event is free for any senior 55 and older. For information, call 440-503-0709.
DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS: The Girard Free Library will host a Dungeons and Dragons Group at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The program will guide you through your first steps, Beginners are welcome Registration is required at 330-545-2508.
ART ROULETTE: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will host Art Roulette 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. Participants will create unique artwork with art roulette. Each person works on a canvas for five minutes and then passes it to the next person. The process continues until the art piece is returned to the original artist. BOOSTER CLUB EVENT: The Bloomfield Mespo Athletics Booster Club will host a hot dog dinner 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the high school cafeteria before the Bloomfield vs. Badger basketball game. Carryout will be available. Cost of meal is $5 to $7.
BOOK HEART ART: McKinley Memorial Library presents: DIY Folded Book Heart, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles.In honor of Valentine’s Day, participants will create a festive heart-shaped work of art by folding the pages of a used book. WALK WITH A DOC: Youngstown State University’s Bitonte College of Health and Human Services continues its commitment to public health through the Walk with a Doc program, a free community wellness initiative at the Southern Park Mall.
The program takes place 10 to 11 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month and is led by YSU physical therapy faculty and students. Each session begins with a brief health talk before participants join in a walk around the mall.
The Thursday session’s focus is American Heart Month / Diet. The walks are free and open to the public. All ages and fitness levels are welcome, and no registration is required.
