City schools to host living wax museum

LIVING WAX MUSEUM: Warren City Schools will host a living wax museum with school district fourth graders 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, 860 Elm Road, Warren. Students from Jefferson, Lincoln, McGuffey and Willard have chosen historical figures to portray. The community is welcome to listen and learn from the living exhibits. With the press of a button, each statue will come to life.

NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING: Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership is inviting residents of the Historic Perkins and Garden District neighborhoods to participate in a Central City Neighborhood Meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, Grant Room, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW. Refreshments will be provided. The meeting marks a step in updating the Central City Neighborhood Plan, originally adopted in 2015, to address the needs for demolition, housing rehabilitation and vacant land reuse. Over the past decade, efforts have been made to demolish vacant and blighted properties and stabilize the neighborhood for future development. The updated plan will address key topics affecting quality of life and neighborhood stability, including housing, with a focus on affordability, condition and reinvestment; transportation, including mobility, safety and access; economic development, supporting local businesses and job opportunities; vacant land reuse; and turning underutilized properties into community assets. Residents will have the opportunity to share their experiences, priorities and ideas during the meeting. PUCO DISCUSSION: A representative from the Public Utilities Commission for Ohio will be at the Girard Free Library at 1 p.m. today to educate residents on a variety of utility-related issues. To register, call 330-545-2508.

PHOTOJOURNALIST CAREER: Vienna Historical Society will host a program by Tribune Chronicle and The Vindicator photographer R. Michael Semple on “Through the Eyes of a Photojournalist” at The Copper Penny building at Vienna Center at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

GAMING CLUB: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will host a Gaming Club at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for teens ages 12 to 18 who can play table games or games on the screen. TECH AND TRACE: Kent State University at Trumbull College of Technical Studies will host a Tech and Trace open house 3 to 6 p.m. Friday to showcase the engineering and semiconductor program at the Technology Building. Visitors can meet with faculty and campus personnel. The program will be for high school students and adult learners.

BABY ITEM COLLECTION: Trinity Lutheran Church, 2742 North Road NE, Warren, will host a collection 4 to 6:30 p.m. March 2 for wipes, diapers and baby clothes for Katharina’s Closet. The event is held the first Monday of each month to collect items. Call 330-647-5402. Items will be distributed 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. March 19.

MEN’S NIGHT OUT: The Yellow Brick Place Cancer Support Center will host Men’s Night Out, a community health education event, on March 4 at Leo’s Ristorante in Howland The event will focus on providing honest conversations about men’s health topics that are often difficult to discuss. The evening will feature medical professionals addressing prostate cancer prevention and detection, erectile dysfunction, general wellness, pain management alternatives and more. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., followed by a complimentary dinner at 6 p.m. Registration is required by Thursday. For information or to register, call 234 228 9550. AAUW SCHOLARSHIP: Saturday is the deadline to submit applications for the American Association of University Women, Warren Trumbull Chapter’s $1,000 scholarship.

Applicants must be Trumbull County female residents who are pursuing a degree at a college or university in the STEM or STEAM fields of study. Applicants must be a full-time senior in good standing with a 3.2 minimum grade point average and are enrolled in an accredited college or university in Ohio.
