Library hosting game day

FAMILY FUN GAME DAY: A Family Fun Game Day will take place 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Youth Multipurpose Room at the Warren Trumbull County Public Library. Families can play games, build with LEGOS or use Play-Doh. Activities are for children ages 3 and up.

NASA PROGRAM: The History of the NASA Glenn Research Center will take place 2 p.m. Saturday at the Warren Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave NW. Robin Unger, a librarian at the NASA Glenn Research Center, will speak about the center’s Cleveland origin.The free event will be held in the Harding Meeting Room and is part of the library’s America250-Ohio program.

LEAGUE SEEKS NOMINATIONS: The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown’s Hall of Fame nominations are open. Nominations must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. Jan. 31. APPLICANTS SOUGHT: The FBI office in Cleveland is looking for high school juniors to apply for its upcoming Future Agents in Training Program (FAIT). Since 2015, FAIT has educated more than 400 students from across Northern Ohio who are interested in learning about the FBI mission, including criminal investigations, cyber threats, counterterrorism, as well as internships and employment opportunities.

Students will learn from special agents, intelligence analysts and a variety of professional staff about investigative tactics, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses and solving cases. The hands-on program provides students the opportunity to learn and understand threat violations, crime scene processing and the judicial system for federal crimes, in addition to the physical fitness requirements to become a special agent.

The free program will take place 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 8 to 11 at the Cleveland FBI office, 1501 Lakeside Ave., Building E. It is open to students who will graduate in 2027 who are in good academic standing. Students can request an application by emailing FAIT.CV@fbi.gov. The applications must be returned by Jan. 31.

Lunch is provided each day and all materials will be provided.

SUPPORT GROUP: Due to winter weather, dangerous road conditions and a recently announced flu variant, the Alzheimer Network Support group is initiating a “call-in reservation policy” for those who wish to attend one of the regularly announced support groups. The alternative method to reach the Alzheimer Network is to call 330-788-9755 anytime to speak about concerns.

WINTER FIELD DAY: Members of the Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Operators will demonstrate emergency communications skills to the public for Winter Field Day activities starting at 11 a.m. Saturday to 5 p.m. Sunday at Jim Marter Yard, 1340 Poland Ave., Youngstown. The event is in cooperation with the Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association. Radio operators from the MVARA will spend the weekend showing the public how amateur radio or ham radio responds to public communications needs in times of emergencies and operate for a full 24 hours on power supplied from stand-alone generators. The emergency preparedness exercise is a yearly event in the U.S. and Canada put together by the Winter Field Day Association. Winter Field Day is not only a way for hams to test and improve their emergency communications skills, the free event is a way for the public to see first-hand how amateur radio can quickly provide emergency communications in times of need.
