Nominate Niles holiday lights
ROTARY CHRISTMAS CONTEST: The Niles Rotary Club is hosting the Great Holiday Light Fight, where people can nominate a Niles residence for the Christmas decorating contest. Entries are open until Dec. 15, with the winner to be announced Dec. 18. Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries. A list of displays that receive an honorable mention will be published. To nominate a residence, include the address and a name if known in the comments section of Facebook or via mail at NilesRotary@yahoo.com.
FOOD DRIVE: A community food drive will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Dollar General, 4347 Warren Sharon Road in Vienna.
CHILDREN’S CONCERT: The holiday children’s concert series will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. The Packard Band will perform holiday songs for local school children.
BARNHISEL HOUSE DISPLAY: The Girard Historical Society will host Golden Victorian Christmas 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and Dec. 13 and 14, at 1011 N. State St., Girard. The historic home is decorated for the holiday season. A suggested donation is four canned goods.
ANGELS GALA: The Shielding Angels charity will host its first Angels Gala at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Hippodrome, 150 High St., Warren. The event will be an evening of culinary delights and conversation with experts on stalking awareness, with special performances from Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Warren, testimonials, resources and awards to community heroes.

KIDS CLUB: The McKinley Memorial Library will present Kids Club: Swirling Snowstorm, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles.
Children ages 5-11 are invited on the first and third Thursday of every month to enjoy a fun activity related to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math). This week, students will make their own winter scene in a snow globe. Registration for this program is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 4.
NILES CHRISTMAS TOUR: Enjoy festive, family-friendly entertainment noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley Birthplace Home, National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum, Niles Historical Society’s Ward-Thomas Museum and the Von Isley Estate (former Clingan-Waddell Mansion). Free transportation will shuttle guests between all four locations. Activities will vary at each site.
SNOWFLAKE BALL: On Saturday, USA Dance Youngstown Warren Chapter #2015 will host its 21st Snowflake Ball at the historic Avon Oaks Ballroom, 1401 N. State St., Girard, from 5 to 10 p.m.

RINGING THE BELL: Area Masonic Lodges will be ringing bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign on Saturday, at four different locations.
Members of Old Erie #3 will be at Bass Pro Shops from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Ali Baba Grotto members will be at Sam’s Club from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; The Valley of Youngstown Scottish Rite members will be at Boscov’s from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Cortland Lodge No. 529 members will be at the rear of the mall by Dental Works.
BREAKFAST WITH SANTA: The Lordstown Lions Club will host Breakfast with Santa 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Lordstown Administration Building, 1455 Salt Springs Road, Lordstown. Cost is $8 for adults; $6 for senior citizens; $5 for children age 12 to 18; $4 for children age 5 to 11; and free for children 4 and under.
Also, those attending are asked to bring non-perishable items to be donated to the Harvest Point Church food pantry.
