The Women's Auxiliary at Trumbull Memorial Hospital has donated more than $80,000 to Kent State University at Trumbull's nursing program, officials announced.

The contribution will establish a scholarship endowment for nursing students from Trumbull County. It also will fund equipment and technology upgrades for the program's skills lab and professional development for students and faculty. The nursing lab's conference room will be named in the auxiliary's honor.

At a recent event, auxiliary President Joyce Lukz presented the check.

"This gift recognizes more than a century of dedication from the women who have volunteered and supported our mission," Lukz said. "We're thrilled to help future nurses serving our local hospitals."

Kathy Dwinnells, the satellite campus' nursing program coordinator thanked the auxiliary for its support.

"Their gift will leave a lasting legacy for our community," she said.

Founded in 1907, the auxiliary has supported the hospital and community through initiatives like the Charity Ball, started in 1915, and a gift shop that opened in 1950. The group has donated more than $4 million to the hospital and local organizations, including $300,000 in scholarships for nursing education. Its mission focuses on promoting health, safety and wellness in Trumbull County and supporting future nurses.

The auxiliary recently supported Northeast Ohio Adoption Services, Trumbull Mobile Meals, Niles Community Services, One Step Ahead Ohio (Trumbull) and the Howland Tigers Food Backpack Program.
