Seeing Eye: Lordstown community picnic set for Saturday
COMMUNITY PICNIC: The Lordstown community picnic will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the central park off Salt Springs Road. The event includes food, games and a basket raffle with proceeds to help with the annual apple cider festival and Christmas tree lighting.
OPEN HOUSE: The Howland Historical Society will present an open house 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the “Yellow House,” 8207 South St. SE, Howland, across from Howland Middle School. The house is open on the third Sunday of each month.
CEMETERY WALK: A tour will take place starting at 10 a.m. Saturday of the Pioneer Cemetery, 661 Mahoning Ave., NW, Warren. Meet at the entrance of the cemetery located behind Akron Children’s Hospital building. The Pioneer Cemetery is one of the oldest in the area where John Stark Edwards and other pioneers of the Connecticut Western Reserve are buried. Cost is $10 with reservations required by calling 330-394-4653.
PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY: Friendship Baptist Church, 1954 Brier St. SE, Warren, will mark the 12th pastoral anniversary worship celebration at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Dr. Avan Odom and the church family will celebrate with guest preacher Suffragan Bishop Joseph E. Walker Jr., who is senior pastor and co-founder of Restoration Christian Fellowship Church in Warren.
GUEST SPEAKER: Mount Olive Baptist Church, 385 Martin Luther King Blvd., Warren, will have guest speaker Minister Rich Lampley at the 11 a.m. Sunday service. Lampley attends Friendship Baptist Church in Girard.
PLANT SALE: Southington Community Park volunteers are sponsoring a plant sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Southington gazebo. All proceeds will be used for kids’ events at the gazebo.
TNR RUMMAGE SALE: A fundraising rummage sale will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the TNR Warehouse, 379 Folsom St., Champion.
Among the items to be sold are toys, linens, holiday items, kitchen, jewelry, luggage, purse, books, furniture, office supplies, housewares and more. A bake sale will take place along with beaded bracelet crafts and face painting.
All money raised supports TNR’s efforts to help low-income families and community cat managers spay and neuter cats, and provide free cat food for community cats and to those in need.
TEEN PROGRAM: The Girard Free Library will hold a teen program 5:30 p.m. Monday where teens can watch an anime show and sample Asian snacks. Registration is needed by calling 330-545-2508.
HEALTH FAIR: St. Patrick Church in Hubbard will present a free health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church’s parish center, 367 N. Main St. More than 20 health care vendors will attend. Hands-only CPR will be offered.
SAFER STREETS: The Healthy Community’s Partnership Act Transportation Team will present a safer streets demonstration on Belmont Avenue on Sunday during the Bike Belmont event. Community members are invited to help the temporary bike lane design 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today on Belmont Avenue between Tod Lane to Gypsy Lane The airport bike ride begins at noon Sunday, and the community bike ride at 2 p.m. Registered riders for the event will receive a free lunch.
