HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE: The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation will hold its annual Holocaust commemoration programs for Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance) on Sunday and Tuesday.
The annual Shoah Memorial Ceremony will be 4 p.m.Sunday at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane. The 32nd annual Community Holocaust Commemoration event will be at noon Tuesday in the rotunda of the Mahoning County Courthouse, 120 Market St. Both programs are free and open to the public.
Winners of the council's student Holocaust writing and multimedia contest will be recognized at the courthouse commemoration. The JCC ceremony will feature video clips of Holocaust survivors with connections to the Valley.
A memorial candle lighting ceremony to honor the 6 million who perished will be part of both events.
Yom Hashoah is a day set aside for remembering all Holocaust victims and for reminding society of what can happen to civilized people when bigotry, hatred and indifference reign.
Other programs include a showing of "The Commandant's Shadow" at 5:30 p.m. today and a Yad Vashem - The World Holocaust Remembrance Center exhibit in the Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation Art Gallery in the JCC.
HISTORY NIGHT: The Leavittsburg Heritage Association will present History Night at the Museum 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the museum, 4901 W. Market St., Leavittsburg. The speaker is Tim Boyer, who will discuss his career at Denman Tire from 1975 to 2010. The event is free to the public.
COMMUNITY NIGHT: The Trumbull Career and Technical Center Community Night will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the school, located off Educational Highway in Champion. This is a family event.
There will be hands-on activities and demonstrations related to education. Food trucks and concessions will be available.
