Seeing Eye: Youngstown Press Club seeks entries

JOURNALISM AWARDS: The Youngstown Press Club is seeking entries for its Scholastic Journalism Awards — a journalistic writing contest for high school students in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys. High school students in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Lawrence and Mercer counties are invited to compete in 11 writing or production categories across a variety of media platforms. In addition, entries are being sought for the scholastic journalist of the year and journalism adviser of the year contests.

The deadline for contest entries is March 21.

The Youngstown Press Club was re-established in 2018 to promote journalism and related professions in the Mahoning Valley.

EVENT HELPS GIRLS FOR PROM: The Warren Junior Women’s League and Champion High School will hold a Bling Prom Boutique for girls from the tri-county area including Trumbull, Mahoning and Ashtabula counties to get free prom dresses and other items. The event will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Champion High School Flash Zone. Items include prom dresses, jewelry, purses and makeup. This is the ninth year for the event, with last year’s event helping 40 girls.

CHURCH HOLDS INSTALLATION: Progressive Baptist Church will hold an installation service of the new pastor, the Rev. Daniel W. Johnson Jr., 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, 2258 Colonial Ave. SE. The Rev. Todd Johnson of Second Baptist Church and First Ward Councilman in Warren will preside over the service.

On Sunday, the Rev. Mark A. Clark will be guest speaker. Rev. Clark is the associate minister at Mount Erie Missionary Baptist Church in San Diego, California.

ROBOTICS FUNDRAISER: The Warren Harding Robotics Boosters will hold a fundraiser 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the high school cafeteria.

The Harding Team ELITE will be competing at regional events in March and April.

There will be a basket raffle, robot demonstration and pancake breakfast. Tickets are required for the breakfast.

MISSION SEEKS VOLUNTEERS: The Warren Family Mission is currently seeking volunteers to deliver Easter dinners. Slots are available for 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., as well as 2 to 4 p.m. Easter dinner deliveries will take place Friday, April 18. Anyone interested in volunteering can call 234-699-7435.

To get a meal delivered to your home, call 330-394-5437 and order your dinner by April 4.

Easter dinner will take place at the Warren Family Mission from noon until 2 p.m. April 18. In addition to dinner, guests can also visit the Easter Bunny, and all children 12 and under will be treated to an Easter basket full of goodies.
