Chili cookoff set Saturday

CHILI COOKOFF: The Warren Harley Owners Group 3906 is hosting a chili cookoff noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Warren Harley-Davidson, 2102 Elm Road, Cortland, to raise funds for Trumbull Mobile Meals.

All are invited to enter the contest or sample varieties for $5. Entrants should arrive by 11:30 a.m. with taste testing noon to 2 p.m.

Categories this year include traditional, spicy and white. Awards will be given for the best in each category as well as for people’s choice.

CABIN FEVER: The St. Teresa of Calcutta Cabin Fever Dinner Dance is 5 p.m. March 29 with dinner at 6 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Covelli Center Gymnasium, 3020 Reeves Rd. NE, Warren.

The event features a homemade dinner buffet, cash bar, musical entertainment, dancing and cash raffles. Profits will benefit Warren Habitat for Humanity House.

GUEST AUTHOR: The McKinley Memorial Library will present “Dreams We Chase: An Author Talk with Novelist Jennifer Weiner” at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

LAYING OF THE ROSES: The Mahoning County Veterans Services Commission will hold the annual Laying of the Roses ceremony 1 p.m. Sunday on the plaza in downtown Youngstown adjacent to the Chase Bank. The ceremony is in remembrance of Mahoning County residents who lost their lives in Vietnam. For information call Susan at 330-740-2450.

PRESS CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS: The Youngstown Press Club is seeking applicants for the two $2,000 scholarships it will award this year.

The awards will go to college juniors or seniors residing in the Mahoning or Shenango valleys majoring in journalism or a related field including communications, broadcasting, marketing, advertising and public relations.

The application deadline is April 1.

Applicants must reside in Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana, Mercer or Lawrence counties, but they may attend college elsewhere.

Applicants should provide examples of community involvement and should commit to attend the Youngstown Press Club’s Sept. 24 Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet at
