LIBERTY PROGRAM: The Liberty Community and Historical Society will meet 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the township administration building, 1315 Churchill Road. Thomas Welsh, writer and Youngstown historian, is guest speaker. He will discuss the life and career of the late developer William M. Cafaro from his 2021 book "The Life and Times of Wiliam M. Cafaro: A Man for All Seasons." People will have the opportunity to purchase copies of the book.
CHRISTMAS APPLICATIONS: Niles Community Services is taking Christmas applications for families living in Niles, Mineral Ridge and McDonald for toy and food programs. Applications will be taken 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Wednesday at the offices, 401 Vienna Ave., Niles, Those needing items are asked to bring photo identification, proof of residency, income verification and medical cards for the children.
FAMILY DAY: The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown will host a Family Day at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. There will be free educational programs and activities, including a scavenger hunt, tours and demonstrations.
APOLLO 11 MISSION: The Girard Free Library will host speaker Doug Fowler, former Youngstown State University adjunct professor of the department of geology, physics and astronomy, at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the Apollo 11 mission. The program will retrace the voyage and Neil Armstrong's first steps.
FRIENDS OF LIBRARY MEETING: The Friends of the Girard Free Library will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday for discussion on how people can support the library. Plans will be made for the calendar party Dec.19 with tickets for the event $10 per person and available at the library.
WINTER CRAFT: Girard Free Library will host a winter holiday themed craft at 5:30 p.m. today. Participants will be creating wreaths for Christmas. Registration is required.
COOKBOOK CLUB: The McKinley Memorial Library will host a Cookbook Club 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the McKinley Birthplace Replica House. Cookbook fans are invited to discuss a new cookbook or theme.
THANKSGIVING DISCUSSION: The Trumbull County Genealogical Society will host a free program on Thanksgiving celebrations throughout the years at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library.
BASKET RAFFLE: The Vienna Historical Society will host a basket raffle event on Saturday. Baskets or items are being accepted. For information, call Heidi Brown at 330-219-0097.
LIBRARY EVENTS: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles has scheduled various events this week:
Coping with Grief at the Holidays will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Kim Calhoun, a licensed social worker and bereavement facilitator at Mercy Health Hospice of the Valley. The program will take place at the McKinley Birthplace Home. To register, call 330-652-1704, ext. 3.
Teen Scene will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, where teens ages 12 to 18 can take part in STEAM experiments and activities. Registration is needed at 330-652-1704, ext 4.
Do it Yourself Hand Soap will be offered 2 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles, where participants will make their own foaming hand soap with essential oils. The program will be led by Janet Aqueda of Making Scents Studio in Niles, who will demonstrate the process. To register, call 330-652-1704 ext 3.
VENDORS BEING SOUGHT: Vendors are being sought for the Girard Christmas in the Park Dec. 21 at Tod Park. Forms are available at the Girard Free Library for interested vendors. Forms are needed by Dec. 10. The event is being planned by Girard city and local groups and organizations.
