Library hosting Presidents program

The seeing eye

OHIO PRESIDENTS: The McKinley Memorial Museum in Niles will host guest speaker, author and historian Heather Cole at 2 p.m. Saturday. She will discuss her book “Born in the Buckeye State: Stories of the Ohio Presidents.” Cole will share stories about Ohio’s presidents and sign copies of her book, which will be available for purchase. No registration is required for the free program.

UPTON PROGRAM: The Harriet Taylor Upton Association will host the First Wednesday series at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Amanda Manahan of the Oberlin Heritage Center, who will speak on the local and national impact of women’s suffrage in Oberlin. The program is free, but donations are welcome. The event will be at the Harriet Taylor House, 380 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, Refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m.

The association honors Upton’s effort for helping to get the womens’ right to vote. Upton devoted more than 30 years to the women’s suffrage movement and passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920.

ASSOCIATION TO MEET: The Northwest Neighborhood Association monthly meeting is 6:30 p.m. today at Grace Methodist Church on Drexel Avenue. Speaker will be John May, Deputy Health Commissioner of the Warren Health Department.

Socks for the Warren Family Mission are always welcome. Also, the church pantry is always in need of nonperishable food items.

LIBRARY FINES: The Girard Free Library is hosting during the month of November Food for Fines with the library offering up to $25 in fine forfeitures to those who donate at least two nonperishable food items to the Emmanuel Care Center. There will be a drop box near the circulation desk. Items are needed by Nov. 26.

PURSE BINGO: Girard High School FIRST Robotics APTIV Team #379 Robotics Boosters will host a purse bingo 7 p.m. Saturday at the Avon Oaks Ballroom, Route 422. The group will recognize contributors as team investors. The robotics teams have been in existence for 25 years.

ROTARY AUCTION: Hubbard Rotary auction will be held 5 p.m. Thursday at Tiffany’s Banquet Hall, 601 Bedford Road, Brookfield The event will be in person and online. There also will be a basket raffle, food and bake sale. Call 424-444-1570 or visit hubbardrotary@gmail.com.

FRIENDS HOLD SALE: The Friends of the Girard Free Library will host a meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 to discuss ways to support the library. The next event will be a calendar party Dec. 12. Tickets are $10 available at the library.

NOVEL WRITING: November is National Novel Writing Month (https://nanowrimo.org/), and the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, is celebrating with several free events for aspiring and established writers.

NaNoWriMo: Come Write in Space from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today and Nov. 18 and 25 at the library. Work on any of your writing projects. Coffee and tea will be provided. NaNoWriMo Kickoff! For teens in grades 7 through 12 to meet with other teen writers and kick off their very own story. This free event will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Howland Library, 9095 E. Market St., Howland.
