ROOSEVELT NEIGHBORHOOD SOCIAL: The Roosevelt Area Neighborhood group will host a neighborhood social 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at 736 Roosevelt St. NW. The social is open to all 2nd Ward residents to help develop collaborations to address neighborhood concerns. Councilman Andy Herman, D-2nd, other elected officials and candidates will attend. Those attending can bring a lawn chair and refreshments to share.
ELDER FRAUD: The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library will present Elder Fraud at 6 p.m. Thursday at the library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. The FBI will present information about current fraud schemes, ways to protect yourself, families and communities from such schemes, and available victim support resources. CAN THE CRUISER: The Ohio State Highway Patrol is teaming up with Bazetta police to "Cram the Cruiser" 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Walmart on Millennium Boulevard. Troopers and police officers will be collecting school supplies outside the store.
WWR 1974: Warren Western Reserve High School Class of 1974 will host its 50th class reunion beginning Aug. 30 with a meet and greet at 4 p.m. Aug. 31. The committee is searching for alums of this class. Contact Donnie Dancey, event coordinator, by the Friday deadline at 916-547-9371.
FAMILY FUN DAY: Trumbull Regional Medical Center is hosting a Family Fun Day in partnership with the United Way of Trumbull County 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the upper parking lot of the hospital. The event will consist of fun for the whole family as well as free health screenings, free books for the first 100 kids, school supplies, face painting, and more. Community partners who will have displays include STAT helicopter, Trumbull County EMA, Howland Fire Department, EMT Ambulance, Warren Police Department, Patriot Health Care, 717 Credit Union, and the Animal Welfare League.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS: Simply Slavic is seeking applicants for its 2024 round of academic scholarships for students attending Youngstown State University. YSU students who have completed their freshman year and are enrolled at the undergraduate or graduate level are encouraged to apply. All applicants must submit a 500-word narrative on how Slavic culture has influenced their lives. Funds for tuition and student expenses such as books, lodging and study abroad programs can be used.
The scholarship is supported through a partnership with local brewer Modern Methods Brewing Co. The deadline for scholarship applicants is Wednesday. The winners will be announced in mid-August.
