SPECIAL OLYMPICS: The 13th annual Special Olympics Trumbull County Invitational will take place Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium (200 S Highland Ave SE, Girard). More than 225 athletes from eight programs across four counties will participate in this year's event. Opening ceremonies will commence at 9:30 a.m., followed by a day filled with various track and field-based competitions. The event will honor Randy Suchanek, who was the president of Girard-Liberty Rotary and co-founder of this Special Olympics event.
FOOD DRIVE: A letter carriers' food drive will be Saturday with residents asked to place nonperishable food items in a bag at your mailbox. Postal carriers will pick up items and take them to local food banks. The event is sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service and other groups.
BOOKMOBILE VISIT: A Bookmobile Bows, BB Guns and Books event will be 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mosquito Lake Park archery range parking lot. There will be a storytime at 5 p.m. There will be a chance to try BB guns at the local range. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
SPRING MIXER: GFWC Ohio Warren Junior Women's League is hosting its Spring Mixer 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ohio Living Lake Vista Clubhouse, 303 N. Mecca St.

COOKBOOK CLUB: McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles will host the Cookbook Club meeting at 10:30 a.m.Wednesday. This month, participants will read "The Book of Burger" by Rachael Ray. Meet at the McKinley Birthplace Home.
READING BASH: The Girard Free Library will host a reading bash beach-themed event, "Spring into Summer Reading Bash" at 6 p.m. Thursday in the community room. There will be refreshments, party favors, raffle baskets. RSVP through the Friends of the Girard Library Facebook page.

FAMILY FUNTIME: Girard Free Library will host a family funtime at 6 p.m. today. There will be galaxy stories and a star cross stitched constellation activity. Materials will be provided.
FLYING COURSE: For those who have ever thought of learning to fly, they can find out more when the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 5 hosts a Flying Start informational program. A Meet and Greet will be at 2 p.m. May 19 and the classroom presentation at 2:30 pm. in Hangar 3 of the Geauga County Airport,15421 Old State Road, Middlefield. EAA Chapter 5 is a local organization dedicated to growing appreciation in aviation The program introduces those age 18 and older about learning what it takes to earn an aviation certificate.
