Waste district will collect solar shades

RECYCLE ECLIPSE GLASSES: The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste District and Trumbull County Tourism Bureau are collaborating with Astronomers Without Borders to recycle and repurpose eclipse glasses. The district will collect used eclipse glasses at spots across Trumbull and Geauga counties to help extend their lifespan and support future solar eclipse events around the world. The glasses collected will undergo quality assessment, and the ones in good condition will be sent to Astronomers Without Borders for reuse. Glasses that can’t be reused will be recycled.

Locations accepting eclipse glasses for recycling are Residence Inn by Marriott, 5555 Youngstown Warren Road, Niles, Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton, 5581 Youngstown Warren Road, Niles, and Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District main office, 5138 Enterprise Drive NW, Warren.The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District main office will collect glasses Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. throughout April.

HISTORY NIGHT: The Leavittsburg Heritage Association will host a History Night at the Museum 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the museum, 4901 W. Market St. Speaker will be local historian Rick Fleischer, who will share information and pictures of trains that ran through Warren and Leavittsburg. The event is free.

FOOD GIVEAWAY: Deliverance Temple Church, 1844 West Ave. NW, Warren, will host a food giveaway at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

CIDER MAKING AT THE LIBRARY: Cider and Doughnut Tasting with White House Fruit Farm will be presented 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles. Participants are invited to sample White House Fruit Farm’s cider while learning about how the drink is made. A variety of doughnuts will be available. GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH: The Cortland Bazetta Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cortland Opera House, 152 N. High St. The meeting will include a presentation on “Starting Your Genealogical Research” with Wanda Tolley, president of the Trumbull County Genealogical Society.

COMMUNITY NIGHT: Trumbull Career and Technical Center, 529 Educational Highway, Champion, will host a community night 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Food trucks and concessions will be available. Different activities will be presented.

HERB SOCIETY: The Trumbull County Herb Society meets 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month at Champion Presbyterian Church. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. For information, call Robin Liddle at 330-898-6974.

COMMUNITY MOSAIC: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles, with the HELMS Foundation, will host a program at 2 p.m. Saturday at McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles to create a mural in Dave Grohl Alley. Artists of all ages and skill levels are invited to paint clay tiles that will be used to make a mosaic in the alley. HELMS Foundation staff will guide participants through the activity.
