Genealogy group to highlight veterans
SOCIETY TO MEET: The Trumbull County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. today in the Grant Room of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Speaker will be Cari Delgado from the Trumbull County Veterans Service Commission, who will talk about grave markers and how to order a tombstone. All meetings are free and open to the public. MUSIC CLUB: Warren Music Club, a member of the Ohio and National Federation of Music Clubs, will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home of Karl and Jeannine Morris. Karl Morris and Anna Marie Beagle have volunteered to prepare and serve a scholarship dinner. Contributions for the dinner from club members and guests will be put into the club’s scholarship fund for an award given annually in May to a student at the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University.
Club member Sean Baran, who graduated summa cum laude from YSU with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in music performance, will perform piano solos including, “Fantasy in D minor” by Mozart and some hymn settings by Mark Hayes. He is the music director and organist at the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh and the piano instructor and choral accompanist at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Pennsylvania.
Sean previously coordinated events such as the Youngstown Hymn Sing and developed educational opportunities for young musicians such as the Youngstown Music Teachers Association Ribbon Festival. His students have gone on to study piano on scholarship at universities, including Oberlin Conservatory, the Catholic University of America, Denison University and Youngstown State University. He will play the Stambaugh Auditorium organ with the Youngstown Symphony in March and will present a solo organ recital at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown in June.
