CHRISTIAN ALLIANCE: Chris Long of the Ohio Christian Alliance will be the guest speaker at 6:15 p.m. today at the Hippodrome, 150 High St., Warren. Discussion will be on the Ohio constitutional ballot issues in the November election. Long will speak at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for sandwich, pastry and beverage.
LIBRARY TOURNAMENT: McKinley Memorial Library invites children ages 7 and up to learn the rules and participate in a marbles tournament 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. FALL FEST: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Niles, will host its fall fest 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Featured will be family friendly activities, live music, 50/50 raffle, food and more. Winners for the raffle will be drawn on Sunday. Music will be performed by the Jim Frank Trio on Friday, French Blue on Saturday and the Richie Wilkins Trio on Sunday.
TEEN CRAFTS: The Girard Free Library will offer a teen retro craft event at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Teens can celebrate the making of candy corn with art. Registration is required.
The library will host a houseplant swap noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Bring a healthy pest-free plant or cutting (in soil) to share. Label your plants and remember to plant them in a pot you do not need back, and then take home something new.
GIRARD ROBOTICS: The Girard Robotics Team will host a trash and treasure sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the high school, 1244 Shannon Road. Proceeds will benefit the FIRST Robotics Aptiv Team 379 and FIRST Lego League team. There also will be a bake sale and 50-50 raffle. Most items will be half price at 2 p.m.
CHALK OVER HATE: The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is participating in "Chalk Over Hate" 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane. "Chalk Over Hate: Fighting Antisemitism Through Public Art" is a campaign by Artists 4 Israel to empower everyone to use their creativity in support of battling antisemitism and all forms of hate.
Guided by JCC visual art instructors, members of the community are welcome to chalk their own message of peace and love. Chalk will be provided.

BENEFITS REP SPEAKS AT MEETING: The Trumbull County Public Employee Retirees Inc will meet at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Shepherd of the Valley, 4100 North River Road, Warren.
This month's program will be presented by Kerri Trotter, benefits representative for association member benefits advisers. She will inform members of the 2024 enrollment benefits available.
Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and a $10 luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m.

SOCIETY TO MEET: The Trumbull County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Grant Room of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren.
Margaret Cheney, past president of the Ohio Genealogical Society, will discuss how to fill out lineage forms for different groups / societies.

GIANT PUMPKIN WEIGH-OFF: The Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers (OVGPG) will host its 29th annual World Record Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off on Saturday at Parks Garden Center, 9010 Youngstown-Salem Road, Canfield. Call the garden center for more information at 330-533-7278.
The 2022 winner, at 2,493 pounds, was grown by Andy Wolf of New York. He is hoping to beat last year's performance.
Prize money this year will exceed $20,000 and contests include the heaviest giant pumpkin, watermelon, tomato and field pumpkin, along with widest sunflower head and longest gourd categories.
The winning premium for heaviest giant pumpkin category will exceed $5,000.
Any member who wishes to compete in any category must have their entry submitted by 5 p.m. Thursday at www.ovgpg.com online registration. The actual weigh-off is set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and will continue until the last competitor has been weighed.
TEEN ART: Teens ages 12 to 18 are invited to express themselves and create a different artwork each month at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles.
All materials will be provided. This program, sponsored by the HELMS Foundation, will take place 4 to 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, with the next one on Tuesday. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, Ext. 4.
AUTHOR TO SPEAK: Author Diana Dempsey will speak about her latest historical fiction novel, "The Unstoppable Eliza Haycraft," at Books A Million at the Eastwood Mall 1 to 3 p.m. Friday. In addition to discussing her book and signing copies, Dempsey will display a period gown, which was crucial to the plot of the book.
The gown was designed and created by the Kent State University School of Fashion under the supervision of Professor Trista L. Grieder. Prior to her career as a novelist, Dempsey was an international news correspondent and anchor, working for NBC News, among others.
BRISTOL LIBRARY CRAFT: The Bristol Public Library will offer an October Take and Make craft kit featuring a pair of solar eclipse glasses and the items to make a protective case.
On Saturday, our area will be in the partial viewing area of the annular solar eclipse. Special glasses are required to view the eclipse without damaging your eyes.
A limited amount of craft kits are available for ages 3 through 12th grade. One kit per child, while supplies last. In addition, the library will have a limited supply of solar eclipse glasses available to the public. One pair per family.
SCRABBLE CLUB: Enjoy a friendly round of the classic crossword game with fellow Scrabble lovers.
This program will take place at the Niles McKinley Memorial Library, 40 N. Main St., Niles, on the second Wednesday of every month. The next session is 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Game boards and tiles will be provided. Staff will be available to answer questions, but will not participate.
PUZZLE EXCHANGE: The Niles McKinley Memorial Library, 40 N. Main St., Niles, will host a jigsaw puzzle exchange 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Participants may bring a jigsaw puzzle to share and take one home to add to their own collections.
