DAM DUCK DROP: A Dam Duck Drop to benefit the Newton Falls community bench project will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the falls next to Veterans Park. Cost is $5 per duck. Ducks and tickets can be obtained at the municipal building, 612 W. Broad St., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Tickets also are available 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. The event will include a late lunch at $10 adults and $6 children. There will be a 50-50 raffle and basket raffle with drawing at 5 p.m. Winners do not have to be present.
POWER OF THE PURSE: YWCA Mahoning Valley is hosting its annual Y's Women: Power of the Purse fundraising event from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Eastwood Event Centre in Niles. Lena Esmail, owner and CEO of QuickMed, will be the keynote speaker.
The event highlights the impact women can have on the economic empowerment of their community. Proceeds benefit YWCA programs and services in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
The event includes basket raffles, a designer purse auction, hors d'oeuvres and testimonials.
Admission is free but donations to YWCA programs will be accepted.

POST MEETING: The Hubbard American Legion Post 51 will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, in the Social Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 22 Westview Ave., Hubbard.
Members will discuss arrangements for the annual Veterans Day Dinner on Nov. 10.
Participants (and their parents) sponsored by the post to Boys State and Girls State, will be invited to the dinner.
Refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the meeting. Commander Raica encourages all members to attend.
BETA CHI AUCTION: The Nov. 2 meeting of Delta Kappa Gamma's Beta Chi Chapter will be from 5:15 to 6 p.m. at Leo's Ristorante, 7042 E. Market St., Warren. There will be an auction followed by dinner and the program, "World Fellowship Auction."
Members not able to attend are asked to call Barb Layfield at 330-898-1196, by Friday or you will be charged for dinner.
