PURPLE PINKIE DONUTS: Members of Rotary District 6650 in Northeast Ohio are joining Rotary Clubs around the nation to host the Purple Pinkie Donut Project on Tuesday a joint fundraiser in celebration of World Polio Day.
The 46 clubs and their high school and college affiliates are selling scratch-made Long John / cream stick dougnuts, topped with a dab of purple icing. This represents the purple paint that is placed on children's pinkie fingers in developing countries after they receive the polio vaccine.
For every $20 dozen sold, a $9 donation will be made to Rotary International's PolioPlus initiative. The donation is then eligible for various matching funds programs.
Launched in Tennessee in 2018, this is the first time an Ohio Rotary District has adopted the program.
The public is encouraged to donate online at www.rotarydistrict6650.org. Checks can be made out to "Rotary District 6650." For information, contact District Governor Rich Tirpak at 330-933-1043 or at rstirpak@neo.rr.com.
