VIENNAPEDIA PROGRAM: The Vienna Historical Society will host a program at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Copper Penny Lodge, 4275 Warren-Sharon Road. Christine Novicky, president of the society, will speak on Viennapedia, which is Vienna's online encyclopedia.
TOUCH A TRUCK: Liberty Library, 415 Churchill Hubbard Road, will host a Touch a Truck event 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Various vehicles will be in the library parking lot for the public to see.
THRIVING TOGETHER: Trumbull County NAACP Chapter 3206, in its continued efforts to support youth of the community, will host an event to celebrate the academic accomplishments and milestone achievements of the NAACP youth members. The 2023 Thriving Together and Amplifying the Future Graduates' Recognition Banquet will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trumbull Community Action Program, 1230 Palmyra Road, Warren. The event will highlight the students' high school, college and graduate school scholarly successes. Guest speaker is Julian Walker, president of the Warren Board of Education and director of Office of Institutional Equity at Eastern Gateway Community College. Three scholarships will be awarded. SOLAR ECLIPSE: Gene Zajac,a NASA solar system ambassador, will host a program on the upcoming total solar eclipse and make solar glasses at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave., Warren. Registration is required at 330-399-8807, Ext. 200.
CLUB TO MEET: The Trumbull County Republican Womens Club will meet Oct. 5 at the Chophouse in Warren. Guest speaker will be Alex Triantafilou, chairman of the Ohio Republican Party.

LIBRARY BOOK SALE: McKinley Memorial Library-Friends of the Library Book Sale will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 4-7, and 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 8 (bag sale), in the auditorium of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum.
Dropoff of books will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. A Friends of the Library preview sale will be 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 3, with memberships sold at the door. Visit the library website for more information on how to become a member.
The Friends will be selling a wide selection of books, audiobooks, music and movies for all ages in the auditorium of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum, 40 N. Main St., Niles.
CHESS CLUB TO MEET: McKinley Memorial Library in Niles is offering a Chess Club 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday. The club will meet the fourth Tuesday of every month. No lessons will be given.
HELP OFFERED AT LIBRARIES: The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and the Healthy Community Partnership will host monthly community office hours at libraries in Youngstown and Warren, beginning Tuesday and Thursday.
CFMV and HCP staff will be on hand to answer questions about their organizations' work, learn about community needs and share resources with local nonprofits. Appointments are not required. If there is specific help being sought, call 330-743-5555 to set up a time to meet during the office hours.
Community office hours will be held at Youngstown's main library, 305 Wick Ave., Tuesday and Oct. 24, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12, while office hours at the Warren library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, are Thursday and Oct. 26, Nov. 16 and Dec. 14. The September and October office hours are 3 to 5 p.m., with November and December dates set 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Community Foundation offers quarterly grant opportunities and other resources and support to local nonprofits.
MAYOR TO SPEAK AT PRESS CLUB: Warren Mayor Doug Franklin will discuss development in and near this city's downtown during a Youngstown Press Club breakfast meeting beginning at 8 a.m. Oct. 3 at the Wean Foundation, 147 W. Market St., Warren.
Franklin, who has been mayor for 12 years, will discuss current and future projects. He cites the demolition of the blighted former St. Joseph Riverside Hospital building late last year and earlier this year as one of his major accomplishments.
Tickets are required for the breakfast and may be obtained by visiting youngstownpressclub.com. The cost is $15 for club members and $20 for non-members. Reservations are due by Wednesday.
The Youngstown Press Club was reestablished in 2018 to promote journalism and other communication-related professions in the Mahoning Valley.
