BAZETTA OPEN HOUSE: The Bazetta Fire Department, which is marking its 75th anniversary, will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the main fire station. There will be a meet and greet, tours of the station, equipment displays, different agency displays, refreshments.
Past and present fire department members are also planning to meet Sunday as part of the anniversary.
WARREN TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY DAY: Warren Township trustees will hold a Community Day from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the LaBrae Little Vikings Field on West Market Street. The event will include a bounce house, water board fire activity, games, cornhole tournament, balloon twister, bicycle giveaway and food.
POST FOUNDER'S DAY: V.F.W. Post 2074 will host a V.F.W. Founder's Day celebration at 4 p.m. Saturday at the post home, 140 Higgins Ave., Niles. The Veterans of Foreign Wars was founded on Sept. 29, 1899, when 13 veterans of the Spanish-American War formed the "Veterans of Foreign Service" in Columbus. The Veterans of Foreign Service later merged with other veterans organizations and was renamed the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1913.
Featured during this celebration will be the re-presentation of medals awarded to Niles resident, and WWII veteran Sgt. Lawrence Pollock, USMC. Pollock was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions in Saipan, and the Silver Star for his heroic actions during the invasion of Iwo Jima, as well as the Purple Heart. Sgt. Pollock passed away, however his son Charles wanted to ensure his memory and actions will be remembered and has given his father's medals to V.F.W. Post 2074 for display and safekeeping. The post also will have a pig roast, beef round, other food and raffles. DJ HH will provide music. The event is open to the public and prospective members.
ASSOCIATION TO MEET: The Northwest Neighborhood Association will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday at Grace Methodist Church. Drexel Avenue NW. Guest speaker is Mayor Doug Franklin who will provide updates on the city.
FULL MOON EVENT: The Full Moon All Star Band will perform 8 to 11 p.m. today at Up A Creek, East Market Street, Howland. Dancing and other events will be featured.
